At 11.ooam on Friday, the Joule Donegal International Rally kicks off from An Grianán and this year’s stages promise to be better than ever. Friday promises great weather (as far as great weather can be promised!) and dry roads could see some eye watering times. Day 1 will cover over 77km and 6 stages, with places like Newtowncunningham and Burt seeing racing back after a few years gap. The first cars from Stage One are due on Mouldy Hill at 12.20pm, when the weekend competition starts in earnest.
As ever, Oisín Kelly and the team at Highland Radio are giving up to date previews and analysis with some great interviews along the way. Will four in a row be too much to ask of Marcus Kelly and Donal Barrett? The team at Highland aren’t so sure and all eyes might just be on Craig Breen and Paul Nagle. To find out more about what the Highland pundits think listen to their Day 1 preview here.
Rally.ie have a comprehensive guide to Day 1 on their website, with a good run down on modified and junior championships too. They reckon that Craig Breen will be pushed by “closest rival Alastair Fisher” who “will be looking to close that gap substantially in order to keep his slim hopes alive”. For a full run-down check out the Rally.ie Preview.
If you’re looking for a live blog of the action, check out Donegal Daily. They’ll be covering everything from road closures to live updates on the rallying. You can follow their live blog here.
Not to be outdone, Donegal Sports Hub will also be keeping you up to date on their live blog.
Most of the live blogs will naturally be harnessing info from lots of places; on the spot reporting, local and national media and of course onthepacenote.com.
Keep an eye out on Joule.ie, where we’ll be rounding up news, views and results all weekend.
